Boots McBlog bio picture

bonjour, y'all!

I'm a dash of Jackie O.  A pinch of Elly May.  A splash of Quelques Fleurs.  A jigger of pickle juice. My friends call me Boots. My name is JoBeth.  I'm just a southern girl who adores a great tune, a delicious meal, beautiful flowers, a frilly dress, and the perfect shoe. I'm married to a curly haired boy I call "The Angler".   By day, I'm a healthcare stategist with a passion for NonProfits.   I have a Masters degree in food.  Literally.  I am a registered dietitian, but I do love burgers and chocolate chip cookies.   I survived being President of the Junior League.  I'm a daydreamer, an avid i-pod shuffler and a novice photographer.  I love to laugh.  I'm often silly with a heapin' helpin' of sappy. I'm blessed beyond measure and amazed by God's grace. I try to keep my high heels walking in faith one step at a time, It's my prayer to help other women live beautiful, gracious lives.

Like all true southerners, I come from a long line of storytellers. My favorite stories paint pictures.  And great pictures tell stories. I hope to accomplish both on this blog.  So,  grab yourself a glass of sweet tea, kick off your Manolo's and sit a spell on my virtual veranda. Flair and folly awaits.

Do tell!

favorite things friday: beach bag beauty

It seems like yesterday,  I would dash to the neighbor’s pool with a beach towel and a brown bottle of tropical oil.  You know the one …  no spf but full of the yummy scent of summer.   Every now and then,  I’d sneak a few sprays of my friend’s Sun-In for those golden highlights.    Classic Rock – which was considered “classic rock” even back then –  played on the radio.   Ahh.    Summer.

Today, I still enjoy lazing by the pool when I get the chance.  Although, my sun-loving accoutrements, I must say,  have multiplied.

Let’s start with the bag.   There are a myriad of cutie patootie bags out there in at all price points.   Mine happens to be this fab oilcloth bag.  Pick your pattern.  I’ve added a monogram to mine…because I’m southern and we do that to EVERYTHING.     I love that the fabric is durable and doesn’t get soaked when the “can-non-ball!”  madness ensues.

How supercute would it be in this fabric:
Instead of my brown bottle of oil of yesteryear,   Bobbi Brown’s Beach is my now my go-to  spray sunscreen  - SPF 15.    The scent is to.die.for.    Don’t freak out yet…. I layer this over my SPF 50  Coppertone Sport Spray.

On my lips,  I opt for kiehls lip balm spf 15 in hue 30.
Its a far cry from  sun in,  but my highlights now cost a wee bit more and I try to take care of them.     Which means, I also  keep a wide tooth shower comb and biolage sun hair conditioner in my bag if I do decide to take a dip in the pool.  Most of the time, I’m less about splashing around these days,  I take a wide brimmed hat to shade me from the sun and opt for that hollywood mystique.   Lets face it – Since nothing about a swimsuit leaves much to mystery, I can at least try to hide my identity.

Beach Towels – must be colorful and with a great pile.    Look at these gorgeous ones from Bed, Bath, and Beyond in a fun orange chain link print.    Hint:  take two towels to fully drape the sun chaise.

bed bath and beyond $12

I am loving these cover ups.    They go from pool to the store.  AND Look great over white jeans for days when you aren’t at the pool.

Roberta Roller Rabbit $70

Twenty years later it may take a little more effort at the pool,  but with the right products in the beach bag,  I think we got what it takes to be a “hot child in the city”
Have a fun safe weekend.
Cheers, Y’all.

Ami - Oooh, I love that cover-up! And I think we need to see you by the pool! Trust me - if I'm out there in a bikini you're going to look svelte next to me.June 25, 2010 - 8:21 pm

Debbie Arnold - Love the beach bag. My latest one is a pink and green polka dot. Can we say Lilly without the $$$$$:) Haven't gotten around to monogramming it yet. That would cost more than my bargain bag:) Oh well. Did I say that it was pink and green???June 28, 2010 - 9:31 pm
